Live Music and Event Spaces

Live music is enjoyed by ticketholders, but sometimes the sound levels in nearby residential neighborhoods needs to be verified for compliance with the local ordinance. Each ordinance is different, and oftentimes at night when the background sound levels are low in a local residential area, the intruding noise from a faraway concert is audible. Although the ability to hear doesn’t necessarily indicate an ordinance violation, we have been asked to verify compliance in a variety of situations, including indoor and outdoor music venues.

Outdoor hospitality venues for events or weddings present similar problems. The local residents’ right to quiet enjoyment of their home is sometimes in conflict with a ranch or a winery’s blossoming wedding-hosting business. Hospitality venues hosting live bands with amplifiers in combination with climate and terrain makes prediction of simplified noise propagation very difficult, so noise propagation modeling that takes terrain and ground-cover type into account helps determine if typical DJ and PA system setups will meet noise regulations in anticipation of a minor use or conditional use permit.

We can also follow-up after a permit has been granted to verify levels at the event location and at points beyond, so that everyone can continue to enjoy their events and their homes!
